Carnivore Club Box Review

May 23, 2016 by Her Leave a Comment

Every so often we get food parcels in the post. Not the type your mum would send when you had moved out of home or when you were at uni but the nice type. Little extra treats you might buy for a special evening in or just to treat yourself. We’ve tried a number of mail order food boxes so when Carnivore Club got in touch to tell us a little bit more about their product and asked if we’d like to try their April box as it was featuring a Scottish supplier, we really couldn’t say no.

Carnivore Club is the world’s first curated cured meat of the month subscription service. Their operations in the UK source only meats made by UK-based artisans, utilizing ingredients and animals from local farms. The April box featured the work of Great Glen Charcuterie, a highly talented artisan that uses wild Scottish venison in all of their recipes. We had spotted Great Glen Charcuterie at a number of foodie events but had never (embarrassingly) purchased anything. So this box was a great delight. It arrived in a box which fits through most standard letterboxes and when we got home, the smell of meat hits you as you open it.

Now this box was a delight to our stomachs. We both love salami and chorizo. Mr E is also a bresaola fan, I hadn’t tried it yet but now it’s in the box it seemed like the right time. We can honestly say that there wasn’t anything in the box we didn’t like. The venison salami is fantastic. We actually just stood with the open packet and ate it. No need for anything to accompany it. The venison and prok salami is also excellent. We again just ate this out of the fridge for a snack and some of it actually made it into a salad. The chorizo came in two flavours; chilli venison and venison and pork. I’ve had the venison and pork today added into a paprika pork dish and the flavour of it definitely lifted the dish. Everything we’ve tasted so far has a great texture and is bursting full of flavour. You can definitely tell that great quality products have been used in the making of each.

The products in the box are great quality and also come with a good shelf life. This is often a down side of these mail order boxes but in this case you have plenty of time to eat it, although given how tasty these products are they haven’t hung around long. The Carnivore club box is priced at £29 a month or £32 for a one of box. You can also set the delivery to monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly so there’s no excuse of not having great  charcuterie in your fridge. A lot of hard work goes into creating each meat and we feel that is reflected in the price. For £29 you get excellent quality meats from British suppliers.

We still have the bresaola left to eat, no idea how it’s still in the fridge but we’ll be sure yo share with you our thoughts when we do.

Why don’t you check it out for yourself?
