Craft Beer Weekend – Northhop15

Keeping with the beer theme this weekend, we’re going to tell you all about NorthHop 2015 and how we got on. After a 170 mile drive we arrived in Inverness with one thing one our mind, that was getting swiftly spruced up and heading down to Eden Court where the beer extravaganza was taking part. There are 3 sessions, Friday evening, Saturday daytime and then Saturday evening. We had made it along to the Saturday afternoon session and swiftly made our way around a number of beers, being careful to select those we weren’t familiar with and those which were special editions.

We were pleased to see a number of our favourite brewers such as Eden Mill, Fyne Ales and Barney’s Beer. There were also some we hadn’t tried such as Loch Ness, 6 degrees North and Wooha. Along with an excellent selection of beers there was an even better selection of food. Ranging from handmade scotch eggs, flavoured popcorn to gin!!  We honestly didn’t know where to begin so we started with the beer and then there was more beer and even more beer. To be honest we did get side tracked by the beer and forgot to try the lovely food on offer but I did manage to squirrel away two bags of Poporopo popcorn, 1 sea salted and their special edition gin and tonic flavour. We did try out the festival brew, which was just a little too tarte for us but seemed to be going down a treat with others.

My favourite beer being Fyne Ales Berryliner and Mr E didn’t have a clear favourite as each one he picked was packed full of flavour. I think next time I’ll have to remember how strong some of the beers are and take my time, I’m no match for beer-loving Mr Edinburger. I think perhaps before NorthHop 2016, I’ll have to start practising, not quite sure how Mr E would take to me tucking into his craft beers regularly!! The live music was also a great addition to the event and a great chance for local bands to showcase their talents to a wider audience. If you think this all sounds great, well keep your eyes peeled for more information on North Hop 2016. Why not even pop over to their website and sign up to their newsletter to make sure you don’t miss out! Thanks again for having us, it was great!!
