Fortitude Coffee – Edinburgh’s Newest Espresso Bar

May 3, 2014 by Her Leave a Comment

Now you’ll probably see that from our blog we do like a cup of coffee! Mr Edinburger likes coffee much more than I do but I am partial to a good cup now and again.  When an email popped into our inbox from Helen and Matt at Fortitude Coffee, we couldn’t resist stopping by.

Fortitude Coffee is situated just on York Place between the National Portrait Gallery and The Stand so it is in good company.

Helen and Matt have only been open a few weeks but you wouldn’t really be able to tell.  It feels like Fortitude has been around for a while.

It was just myself who ventured in as Mr Edinburger wasn’t feeling to great so I left him at home.  Being an occasional coffee drinker I usually just go for a mocha but thought i’d try something different.  Matt suggested I try a flat white, this was a good choice!

Fortitude serve Workshop coffee.  A small batch roaster based in London.  The coffee is definitely fresh, don’t think i’ve had a coffee that strong before!  They also serve specialty teas from Anteaques, with a seasonal special.

A range of freshly baked goodies can also be found, but as I had just had lunch I couldn’t quite manage to squeeze in some cake.

If you’re passing by at lunchtime they offer Union of Genius soups and are hoping to extend their lunch menu in the very near future.

You can sit in and watch the trams go by, read the papers and books available or you can avail of their takeaway service.

If coffee is your thing then i’d definitely recommend stopping by whether to try an espresso or to buy some coffee beans.  If your not sure what to try then have a quick chat with Matt or Helen and they’ll point you in the right direction.

Fortitude Coffee is open Monday to Friday 8am-8pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am-6pm.  You can also find them on twitter and facebook

Now to get the other half to venture up so I can try some cake and fabulous tea whilst he tries the coffee.  No doubt i’ll have to stop him from buying a bag of each different type of coffee available.

If your passing by, make sure you stop in!
