Lowdown Coffee, Edinburgh

December 19, 2016 by Her Leave a Comment

Finding good coffee has become easier in Edinburgh now that you have the likes of Fortitude Coffee, Brew Lab Coffee and The Caffeine Drip. So when I found Lowdown Coffee on a mammoth shopping day in town I was overjoyed. We rested our tired feet and indulged in some great coffee and cakes.

Only in recent months have I learned to appreciate great coffee. Coffee didn’t really agree with me but I think preservering with it has helped somewhat. Starting with de-caf and then working my way up I can now drink pretty strong, bitter coffees.

This lovely cappucino in Lowdown Coffee was great. I packed a great punch and had lovely chocolate and fruit notes to it. Looking back I should have found out what blend they were using but I think the shopping had gone to my head and I was very appreciative of great coffee. The space is very white and minimalistic and because of this looks very fresh and clean. There’s a small counter to order takeout but usually everything is table service. From ordering right through paying your bill.

They also offer a small range of cakes and donuts. In the name of shopping I just had to have one of their salted caramel donuts and what a delight it was it. It was sugary goodness, light fluffy dough with an equally light filling. If I was the only one there I might have had a second but thought I better not.

Overall, Lowdown Coffee is a great wee find on George Street, if you don’t know it’s there you would be forgiven for just walking past. The only real indication is their sign on the pavement. Maybe that’s why I like it so much, when you’re in the know it’s easily found.
