The Black Fox, Leith Review

July 14, 2015 by Her Leave a Comment

Having walked past The Black Fox numerous times, it was a sunny Wednesday evening that I finally got to investigate. I was a little early meeting my friend but the place was already pretty busy given it was just before 6pm. Must be something about the sun that makes everyone in Edinburgh want to be out and about.

The Black Fox is a welcome addition to Leith Walk and has certainly hit the spot with a number of locals. Whilst sipping my chosen poison, one of the bartenders greeted some folk and asked if they wanted their usual. This is the sort of place I like and didn’t feel uncomfortable at all whilst waiting for my friend to arrive.

IMG_3584 The drinks menu is pretty good, they stock a large number of fantastic beers and there’s also a pretty great cocktail list. The open plan layout means you can smell the food as it cooks and I was getting hungrier by the minute! Everything smelled so tasty and as each dish went past I was constantly changing my mind about what I should have.

The food menu is pretty much a great combo of burgers and hotdogs. There probably are other items on the menu but these two caught my eye. They also do monthly special burgers but when I visited they didn’t have any but they did have a cocktail special. I was tempted but after much debate I had the pork and chorizo burger, cajun fries and beetroot coleslaw.

The food was fantastic! The burger was full of flavour, tasted fresh and had a good soft burger bun. The cajun fries were a great side. They were well seasoned and every so often you’d pick a pretty spicy one but this could be cooled down with the beetroot coleslaw. This was fresh, creamy and crunchy.

The atmosphere of The Black Fox was great, the banter from the bar staff was a breath of fresh air and we’re pretty sure you’d be hard pushed to leave the place and not enjoy everything about it. Fingers crossed The Black Fox stays around as it’s exactly what Leith Walk has been missing! Next time I’ll need to take Mr Edinburger with me to see if it passes his high standards but I’m pretty sure it could make it onto our Top 5 burgers in Edinburgh list.
